I finished my PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2004. For my dissertation research, I conducted an ethnographic study at an adult ESL program in the Bay Area that primarily served Latina immigrants. My recent research focuses on cultural identities and language ideologies in English language teaching in Chile and California, and on the development of temporality and evaluation in second language study abroad narratives. Before beginning doctoral studies, I taught ESL for ten years at a community college in Washington state, and for one year at a university in Nicaragua.
