Steven G. Lapointe Award

Steven G. Lapointe In memory of Steven G. Lapointe, who served as the Linguistics Program Director and Chair of the Graduate Group in Linguistics from 1992 until his untimely death in February 1999, the Department of Linguistics has endowed a fund in his name. Professor Lapointe, a prominent morphologist, was keenly interested in linguistic theory and in the careful analysis of data. This fund provides an annual research travel award to enable Linguistics graduate students to present their research at scholarly meetings. These awards are competitive; interested students must apply to be considered. Guidelines and a call for proposals are issued annually, usually in the Winter quarter.

Additional contributions to the fund are most welcome at any time. If you would like more information on this, please contact Patrick Farrell (530-752-4543) or Lesley Byrns (530-752-1291).

The 2008 recipients of the Steven G. Lapointe Research Award for Graduate Students in Linguistics are Tammy Gales and Michael Grosvald, candidates for the Ph.D. in Linguistics.
