Lee Osterhaut is Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington, where he runs the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language laboratory, which uses ERP technology to investigate such issues has how second languages are acquired, the nature of individual differences in the processing of complex sentences, and what the neural correlates of linguistically encoded social stereotypes are. In one recent research project on the neural processes involved in second-language word learning, Osterhaut and colleagues provide evidence against the common belief that learning a second language is tedious and slow.
