Duane Leonard: Nancy Webb Scholarship Recipient
The Linguistic Department's annual Nancy Webb Scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, has been awarded to Duane Leonard, a Ph.D. student in Linguistics
Duane received an M.A. from UC Davis in Applied Linguistics in 2005 and advanced to candidacy for the Ph.D. in Linguistics, with an SLAD emphasis, in 2007. His dissertation project, directed by Professor Watson-Gegeo of the Graduate Group in Linguistics, is entitled "An Ethnographic View of Academic Writing – From Policy to Identity."
The Nancy Webb Scholarship will enable Duane, who has been employed primarily teaching writing to ESL students, to have a research-focused quarter.
