Language Group at the Center for Mind and Brain: IGERT Proposal

A large interdisciplinary group of researchers has recently proposed a project for Advanced Training in Language Science at UC Davis. This group has been selected by the Office of Research to submit a full proposal for the prestigious NSF Integrative Graduate Education & Research Traineeship (IGERT) award.

The PI for this project is Matthew Traxler (Psychology and CMB); the co-PIs are members of the Graduate Group in Linguistics (David Corina, John Hawkins, and Tamara Swaab). The preliminary proposal states:

The goal is to provide students with integrated multi-disciplinary training in language science.  Students will receive foundational training in linguistic theory, cognitive theory, cognitive neuroscience as it relates to language function, and behavioral and neurophysiological research methods.  This training will allow students to tackle a number of practical and theoretical issues, including those involved in the development of literacy, recovery of language function following brain injury, the processing of signed and spoken languages, the processing of different types of languages, and the neural underpinnings of language.
