UC Davis Linguists at National Research Council Workshop
PhD student Mackenzie Price joins 3 generations of sociolinguistics mentors at the National Research Council Workshop on the Role of Language in School Learning, Hewlett Foundation, Menlo Park, Oct. 16, 2009.
Robert Bayley presented a paper entitled “Explicit formal instruction in oral language: Second language” at this workshop, the goal of which was to examine the state of knowledge about aspects of language development critical to learning in K-12 classrooms and their contribution to observed achievement disparities and to discuss steps the NRC and other organizations might take to help advance research and practice, given the current state of knowledge.
