Linguistics Pro-Seminar

The UC Davis Linguistics Ph.D. program offers a pro-seminar one or two quarters every year, to allow students to become acquainted with the research done by the Linguistics Faculty, the Graduate Group, and the ESL Lecturers and to interact with these faculty in a seminar setting.

Course Details: The class will have an informal meeting once a week with a different faculty member. The faculty member will lead a discussion of their papers, and any provided background works. Having read the speaker's papers, the students will be prepared to discuss the work with each speaker. There are no assignments beyond advance reading of the papers (which shouldn’t exceed 2 background and 2 discussion papers per session) and participation in the discussion. Class is graded on a pass/no pass basis. (1-2 units).

This course is not required, but is strongly recommended for Ph.D. students in Linguistics. Graduate students from other departments/programs are welcome to participate as well.
