Ph.D. Admissions Requirements

Applications, with supporting materials, must be submitted online through Graduate Studies by January 15.

We require: all transcripts, three letters of recommendation (preferably from instructors), general GRE scores, a writing sample (such as a term paper or an academic essay), and a statement of purpose. International applicants must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score report, unless it can be documented that their native language and primary language of instruction is English, they have earned a degree from or attended for at least two years an accredited university whose primary language of instruction is English, or  they have attended UC davis for at least one year.  Minimum scores on these tests must be 7 (IELTS), 250 (TOEFL computer), 600 (TOEFL paper), or 100 (total for all 4 components of the TOEFL iBT).

To be eligible for all funding opportunities, applicants must report general GRE scores and file a FAFSA and a fellowship application available from the Graduate Studies website.
