Maximo Torreblanca

Maximo Torreblanca was a professor in Linguistics and the Department of Spanish. He passed away in February of 2018.

Professor Torreblanca  joined the UC Davis faculty in 1982, with a joint appointment in Linguistics and Spanish and Classics. He taught courses on historical linguistics, Spanish phonology, Romance linguistics, and Spanish dialectology. His research focused on Hispanic and Romance philology, phonology, and dialectology, with special interests in Arabic influences on Spanish, dialetal /s/ aspirationsibilant palatalization in Iberian Romance, and morphosyntactic influences on sound changes in Spanish.
