Raul Aranovich and Kenji Sagae: Linguistics and cybersecurity

Raúl Aranovich and Kenji Sagae are developing an ontology for cybersecurity with NSF funding, using NLP methods.

Raúl Aranovich and Kenji Sagae are leading an interdisciplinary team to build an ontology for cybersecurity using NLP tools and methods. The project is funded by NSF grant #1840191. With the help of computer scientists, they are developing a complex system to harvest and retrieve concepts from online discussion boards, advisories, and program documentation, organizing these concepts and their relations in a logical network, or ontology. The ontology will be deployed in the UC Davis School of Medicine, to help secure its scientific cyberinfrastructure. The project, which received $640,000 in funding, will last for two years. Besides Aranovich (as the PI) and Sagae, the team includes Vladimir Filkov, Premkumar Devanbu, and Matthew Bishop (all from Computer Science).
