LIN 205: Morphological Processing

LIN 205: Computational Psycholinguistics

Course Description: What is a word?  The answer to this question is surprisingly complex, with different research traditions offering vastly different replies.  This seminar will explore what words are when viewed from the lens of lexical storage and morphology processing.  Across this course, we'll look at current theories of morphological (de)composition, discuss how typological diversity challenges our basic assumptions, and explore research in psycholinguistics that aims to explain how humans produce and comprehend complex forms in real time.

Course meets Wednesdays 3:10-6:00pm.
