Research Groups and Organizations

The UC Davis Linguistics Department has several interdisciplinary gatherings and groups that meet regularly in order to share their work and learn from each other. Learn more about each of them individually below.

Cluster on Language Research (CLR)

This is a fully graduate-student run and organized registered student organization (RSO) that has two primary goals. First, it supports student scholarship and fosters interdisciplinary research and job-related workshops by hosting a handful of invited talks each quarter. There is no other organization on campus that fosters this type of student-oriented and interdisciplinary work than the CLR.

Second, in addition to the quarterly talks, we put on an annual Symposium on Language Research in May, this academic year happening on May 22-23, 2026. To learn more about this group, please visit their webpage directly here

Reach out to Jordan (JC) Crowley or Anna Boyer, PhD students in the department for more information about the CLR.

Psychology Language Group

Every Friday, students who are interested in all things psycholinguistics-related come together to share their recent work in their field. This is intended to be a place to present either works in progress or preliminary versions of conference presentations or dissertation defenses. Topics have historically ranged from traditional psycholinguistics to things like perception of vowel spaces, attention and eye-tracking studies, infant language development, and neurological studies of signed languages, just to name a few.

For more information, reach out to Dr. Fernanda Ferreira, the organizer of this group, in the psychology department.

Linguistics Club at UC Davis

Officially founded in Fall 2025, the linguistics club at UC Davis is a primarily undergraduate-centered group that meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month to discuss linguistics-related topics. They often host activities to learn new linguistic concepts, share presentations with each other, and foster collaboration between undergraduates and graduate students / faculty in a mentorship process.

You can view their Instagram account (@linguisticsclubatucd) for more information on their meetings and how to contact an officer to join.
